Our Community
At Millgate School, community is at the heart of what we do. We are proud to be a school that not only supports our pupils to grow academically, socially and emotionally, but also helps them understand the importance of making a positive difference to the world around them. Our approach encourages children and young people to build confidence, develop empathy and take an active role in their local community.
Our annual “Millgate Gives Back” event shows this commitment in action. On this community action day, our pupils work across 18 locations in Leicester alongside local organisations, taking part in practical projects that improve shared spaces and strengthen community connections. They help with litter picking, tidying and improving local environments, and spend time with older members of the community through visits to care homes. We also support people experiencing homelessness through our partnership with One Roof Leicester, helping pupils understand the importance of dignity, compassion and practical support for those facing the greatest challenges. Alongside partners such as Age UK and LOROS, these experiences help our pupils see that even small actions can have a meaningful impact on the lives of others.
For our pupils, these opportunities mean far more than taking part in a single event. Community involvement helps them develop communication skills, resilience, empathy and a strong sense of belonging, while showing them that they can make a real contribution to society. At Millgate, we believe in helping every child write a positive future, and our work in the community is an important part of that journey. By building strong local partnerships and creating regular opportunities to give back, we help our young people grow into active, thoughtful and responsible members of the community.
