Our School Committees: What They Are and What They Do
At Millgate School, we believe in nurturing values such as belonging, caring, believing and achieving. Our committees are a vital part of our ethos, giving students the opportunity to develop responsibility, teamwork and leadership skills. Each committee is student-led, they meet regularly and is open to all our pupils to ensure everyone has a chance to participate.
Our Committees
1. Healthy Leaders
- Focus: Promoting health, wellbeing, and sports across the school.
- Activities: Organising sports fixtures, sporting events, and sports day; researching and reporting on health topics; giving a voice to those who may be unheard.
- Impact: Encourages healthy lifestyles and ensures everyone’s wellbeing is considered.
2. Eco Schools
- Focus: Environmental awareness and sustainability.
- Activities: Planning and implementing eco-friendly initiatives; leading the school’s eco-strategy; hosting events and earning recognition such as the Eco-Schools flag.
- Impact: Fosters pride in creating a greener school and encourages responsibility for the environment.
3. Events Coordinators

- Activities: Organising seasonal, themed, and annual events; celebrating achievements and diversity through imaginative activities.

4. The Mentors

5. Advocates for Change

How Committees Work
- Committees meet monthly to discuss plans and prepare activities with their staff leads.
- Committee leads receive special recognition, including lanyards, privileges and badges for their contributions.
- An annual awards ceremony celebrates the achievements of committee members.
